Deputy Ron Digby with deputy Caikli

Quadrangels' Auxiliary Help Take a Bite Out of Crime!

Ron Digby, who has been with the sheriff's office since December of 2000, approached his sergeant, Matt Kinsinger with the idea of acquiring another K-9 to supplement their already existing Labrador Retriever who is trained for narcotics detection.  Ron and Sgt. Kinsinger then approached the sheriff and captain with a power point proposal they had made, and gained approval.  The sheriff's office is currently operating on a lean budget, so it was decided to seek donations for the purchase of the dog.

After some research they decided that the Humane Society Quadrangels' Auxiliary would be the first group to approach.  They approached Sandie Parkins, friend and Quadrangel member, and expressed their idea to her.  She in turn took the idea to the rest of the Quads.  Sgt. Kinsinger and Deputy Digby met with the Quads a short time later and presented the power point presentation to the group.  The Quads agreed to donate the $6500 needed to purchase the dog, train the dog and ship him from Germany. The dog was ordered and arrived in the United States on July 2, 2004.

Caikli was born December 5, 2000, in Budapest, Hungary.  He is a German Shepherd.  Before coming to the United States he was trained in tracking and bite work.  In Hungary, Caikli received his Shutzund one certification which is training similar to police work.

Since his arrival Caikli and Ron have been training several times a week.  They have trained Caikli in narcotics detection and Ron has also been trained to properly handle him.  They are being trained by M&M Training Kennels in Sandusky, Ohio.

On August 24, Caikli took his Ohio State Certification test for narcotics detection and tracking and received a perfect score.  After certification, he will work the road as a deputy.

Caikli will be sworn in as a deputy on August 302004, at 2:00 pm at the Sheriff's office.  Ron will also be conducting a K-9 demonstration at the Hancock County fair on September 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the north grandstand.  Please mark your calendars to see Ron and Caikli at the fair...you will be impressed by how well these two work together to accomplish their goals!!
