The Share-A-Pet Program brings animals and people together! Volunteers take animals that are currently available for adoption from the Humane Society to visit the residents of nursing and adult care facilities in Hancock County. It is a wonderful program for both the residents of the care facilities and the animals at the shelter. Many studies have shown that this type of therapy actually improves the mental and physical health of people of all ages. If you love animals and enjoy helping others, this would be a great volunteer opportunity for you!
The program runs every other month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between the hours of 10:30 am and 3 pm . The time of the visits vary depending on the facility. For more information, please contact the volunteer coordinator at 419-423-1664.
Pet Pal Program
The Pet Pal Program is a volunteer program to help with the socialization of animals that are waiting to find their forever homes. Walking the dogs and giving them loving care is a great way to help improve their adoptability. Cats also love the attention this program offers.
The program is held Monday – Friday from 11:00am-4:00pm. Volunteers are asked to sign up for 1-hour increments during those days. The time for Saturday Pet Pals is 11:00am-2:00pm. You may volunteer to work with the cats or dogs, whichever you prefer.
Prior to working with the animals, volunteers must read and accept our program guidelines and completer any training requirements. Volunteers aged 12 – 16 must be accompanied by an Adult (aged 21 years or older) Volunteer partner.
Come join the program and help the animals in the shelter!
