**Effective **

**Effective March 17, 2020**

The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County exists for the homeless animals of Hancock County and for the community we serve.

We will continue to fufill our mission throughout Ohio’s State of Emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic by “Flattening the Curve/Cat.

“Flattening the cat” takes preventive measures, such as social distancing and limiting exposure to the public, to ensure our healthcare system can keep up with an increased demand and limit infection rates.

The Humane Society & SPCA of Hancock County will be operating under the following conditions until further notice:

  • Vistors to the shelter will be allowed by appointment only. Appointments are available for those who are sincerely interested in adopting an animal. Please do not request an appointment if you are not currently considering adding a furry friend to your family. To schedule an appointment, please call 419-423-1664
  • Appointments must be made for surrendering an animal. If you have found a stray animal, please contact Animal Control to arrange a time for drop off.
  • The Maxwell Meyers Memorial Golf classic, previously scheduled for May 8, 2020, is rescheduled for September 25, 2020. For more information about the Golf Classic Click here
  • Our low cost spay and neuter clinic will not be operating until further notice. At the request of Governor Mike DeWine, it is recommended veterinarians postpone elective procedures in order to help allocate personal protective equipment to institutions in greater need. No appointments will be scheduled. Previously scheduled appointments will be rescheduled once normal operations resume.
  • We will still offer free pet food for those in need; however, an appointment must be made to pick up. Please call the shelter at 419-423-1664 to schedule a time.
  • Unfortunately, we will not be allowing volunteers during this time.
  • Our Garage Sale scheduled for March 20-22nd is postponed until further notice. We will not be accepting donated items for the garage sale.
  • All tours and group activities are post-poned until further notice.

Our dedicated staff will be providing the same loving care to the animals in our shelter. Animal Control officers will still be available to respond to reports of dogs running loose and concerns regarding animal cruelty.

We appreciate our community’s patience and understanding during this time.
